Otay Lake Fishing
Lower Otay Lake consists of 1,265 surface acres at capacity and has 13 miles of shoreline set at an elevation of 490 feet. The lake is open year-round, sunrise to sunset on Wed., Sat., Sun. and holidays. Closed Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.
Otay Lake Boating Information:
Lower Otay Lake offers a launch ramp for a $7 launch fee. Rental boats are also available. Lake speed limit is 20 mph.
Kayak and Canoe Rentals:
Must be 16 years of age to rent any boat.
Single Kayak - $6.50 per hour ($13.00 deposit)
Double Kayak - $10.00 per hour ($20.00 deposit)
Private Boat Launch - $ 7.00
Private Kayaks (single) with one person (all or part of day) - $2.00
Private Kayaks (double) with one or two persons (all or part of day) - $7.00
Private Canoes - $7.00
Types of Fish
This lake is best known for it's Largemouth Bass fishing. There’s also big Blue and Channel Catfish, Crappie, and Bluegill found in the lake as well. Lower Otay Lake is a catch and release only fishery with use of barbless hooks on artificial lures only.
Largemouth Bass - 18 pounds, 12 ounces
Bluegill - 3.8 pounds (California State Record)
Crappie - 3 pounds, 6 ounces
Blue Catfish - 82.10 pounds
Channel Catfish - 38 pounds, 7 ounces

Otay Lake Facilities:
Swimming, windsurfing, jet and waterskiing are not permitted. The facilities consist of a boat launch, a snack bar, picnicking, boating and fishing. Dogs are not allowed on boats or in the water. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and kept at least 50 feet away from the water. All boat rentals, including kayaks are available on a first come basis. Boat rentals are available on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
